New audio effects & features, including ability to use VST plug-ins, new fancy looking text animations etc, improved 'Media Pane' and Library to manage your clips and favourite settings, edit attributes of multiple selected clips / transitions all at once, full-screen preview, turn off 'align to frame' to start a clip (e.g. Also no Flash import/export (but that would undoubtedly cost extra.)Īpart from that it does seem to have pretty comprehensive support for AVI, MPEG1,2,4, HDV, AVCHD, wmv, and Quicktime, as well as Dolby stereo (import & export), and export straight to Youtube and to PSP / iPod. Sadly, still no smart render (apart from apparently DV), and no Dolby surround. Unfortunately, the new look doesn't use the space so well, so you can't fit as many timeline tracks on the screen. I'd imagine it's designed to be far easier now for new users to put something together (always one of Ulead's main strengths), while still offering the strength of the Vegas-like timeline for more advanced multi-track editing. But it still appears to work the same as ver 5 did in Timeline mode, with very versatile unlimited, drag-and-drop video/audio tracks, so it must be the same stuff 'under the bonnet'. Now instead of looking remarkably similar to the Sony Vegas GUI, it looks remarkably similar to the Corel/Ulead front-end (especially their new Video Studio X2), especially with the new Storyboard mode. The main difference though appears to be the GUI. Overall to me it doesn't seem to be a major upgrade - but there are some useful new features etc, which will probably persuade me to stick with it. Having seen that Corel (Ulead) have just released their Video Studio X2, I just thought I'd come back and say I'm trying Serif MoviePlus X3 (on a 60-day money back trial).
